Before you can start shopping for a wedding cupcake stand, you have to figure out how big it needs to be.  I know that this sounds pretty obvious, but having an exact number dialed in beforehand will prevent unwanted surprises later on!  Usually, I’ll tell people to take the total number of people who RSVP’d and add 15% to that total.  There are going to be some people who eat extra, some will hit the floor, and you’ll probably want to take one or two home with you.  The 15% should cover all of that!

Tiered Cupcake Stands

Tiered stands are the most common style used for weddings.  They allow you to fit a lot of cupcakes in a fairly small space, and they look fantastic.  In order to get something that will be easy to decorate and flexible in the number of cupcakes it will hold, you need something that has flat tiers.  Wire cupcake stands are limited to holding exactly the number that they’re designed for, flat ones will allow you to do anything you like with them.

For smaller gatherings a 3 tier cupcake stand will usually suffice.  Many of them will hold upwards of 50 or 60 cupcakes, and even pairs of small ones can be arranged on the cake table.

Larger parties require a very different style of cupcake stand.  A cupcake tower is just a huge tiered stand that holds a ton of cupcakes.  Be very careful that you don’t overload these huge cupcake stands because they run the risk of tipping over!

Decorating Cupcake Stands For Weddings

Like I said above, the flat tiered cupcake stands are perfect for decorating.  You can do anything you want with them, or leave it plain if you like!  One of the most popular ways to decorate them is to take the same flowers that you are using in your table center pieces and work them in around the cupcakes.  Fabric in the colors of the rest of the wedding can also be draped onto the stand.  Both of these techniques will really bring everything together and look fantastic!

Soon cupcakes will be the norm and those that are looking to do something different will get cake!  Then, as it is now, there still won’t be a better way to display them then with cupcake stands.  Use the tips outlined here in this post to get the stand that you need and dress it up to look perfect!

The answer to that question is tricky for me to answer since I’m not going to your wedding (the invite is in the mail, right?).  What I can do is show you what your options are like and where you should turn to find wedding cupcake stands.

First, you have to decide whether or not you want this stand to have life beyond your wedding.  If you want to keep it for future use, you should look into wire, plastic, or glass cupcake stands.  If you never see yourself baking a ton of cupcakes again, go with cardboard.  Both stands have their advantages, and we’ll take a look at those now.

Reusable cupcake stands are great because, well, you get to reuse them.  If you have a lot of people coming to your wedding, it may require multiple stands.  The generic Wilton cupcake stands only grow to about 40 cupcakes, so depending on the size of the guest list it may be more economical to go with cardboard.

Cardboard cupcake stands are perfect for larger occasions.  The can be built to hold 300+ cupcakes, but are usually plain white cardboard which leaves you to decorate them.  That may be right up your alley, but for many brides and their families this usually goes by the wayside.  You probably won’t need the jumbo stand again, so it’s up to you to decide what its future is going to be.

The best use of wedding cupcake stands I’ve seen was a couple of years back when they used a mix of cardboard and wire stands.  There was a medium sized cardboard stand that held around 80 cupcakes or so, that was decorated with flowers and fabric, and finished with a small cake for the bride and groom on the very top.  The wire stands were positioned across the length of the table.  It was a very beautiful table setup.
